Blockman

Blockman is alive, but unable to move. He is built up by everyone elses boring components and notions, and his motion is hindered greatly. He wants to do so many things, but feels paralyzed. There is a cure however. Knock over the blocks, and start over. Nothing is lost, but the new blockman is stronger.

Resistance to change

Thevenin Equivalent Circuits

Whenever you need to predict how something is going to behave you don’t need to analyze things down to the lowest possible level. For example, when current flows in a resistor, you don’t need to know what happens to every atom in the resistor. That ability to describe what happens to a large number of atoms in the resistor by using a macromodel for the resistor is convenient. Electrical engineers often think at different levels of complexity.

How convenient. I think the electrical engineers have the right idea. Condense an entire complex, convoluted system and reduce it to two factors. Potential and resistance are fundamental to life as well.

Thus, if the goal is to increase output, a person must increase his potential to excel, or reduce the barriers to success. Be careful, however, or one might short himself.

Brand Absurdity

AT&T, or excuse me, at&t, is one heck of a brand – in a bad way.

Following who begat what with at&t rivals biblical bloodlines in complexity.

Currently I have a cingular wireless phone, and when I login it asks, “are you a cingular customer, or a former AT&T wireless subscriber?”
Cingular is now going to change its name back to at&t. Does this mean the dialogue box is now going to say “are you a cingular customer, former AT&T wireless customer, or a new at&t wireless customer?”

There is a good chance it will have to ask such an absurd question if “at&Tcingular” can’t figure out how to integrate all their backend systems. Therein lies the problem. This ‘new’ at&t branding is supposed to appeal to a new and young market. What does it really stand for? Bundling my wireless, home phone, dsl, and sometimes sattellite tv into one bill. Wow, a giant telco, sooooo different that the old AT&T.

This reminds me of a story I read about when Steve Jobs rejoined Apple. As I recall, a new ad campaign was being thrown around, something along the lines of “Apple, We’re Back.” Steve was like “How are we back?” He was right. Today Apple is back, but at the time, it would have been a joke. “Your world, delivered.” is sbc’s “We’re Back.” Right.

Nose Rocket

Let the nose rocket take you where it can. Much has been said about ‘brown-nosing’ to get where you want to go. I would take a different a approach. You must ‘nose out’ a good opportunity. The expression is to ‘keep your eyes and ears open.’ What about the nose? Its a much more acute sense. If you walk into a room and there is a bar of chocolate on the table, it will probably go unnoticed. The nose however, presented with the aroma of a chocolate cake in the oven, would not be nearly as distracted. The mind is instantly drawn to the scent on locks onto it. That is how to get to the top. Sniff out the opportunities, and rocket to the top.

CTA

Why is it that the CTA sounds so much less cool than say, ‘the underground’ in london. For an organization that is losing money, maybe they should reinvent their image.

reTired

Why do people wait forever to do what it is they want. I once spoke to a man, whose wife was on the way to the emergency room. He was home alone, in his 80s. He claimed to have several million in the bank, from saving. He said he received his gold watch. He also said that he had so many plans after he retired, but her realized his best years were behind him and his health was waning. He described his voice as cancerous, and said to me, don’t wait to do the things you want to do, do them as you drive past them, and stop and see what you want to see. If you put them off today, they may be put off forever.

Cupdog

Today at the office I looked at a free coffee cup. One of the luxuries of corporate america. For whatever reason it reminded me of the groundhog. Groundhog day, the movie, was about doing things the right way, every day, or being stuck in the worst day over and over again. Perhaps thats why the cup I start may day with inspired me to create cupdog. He saw no shadow.

The first fiend

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Welcome to stickyfiend. Everyday, or multiple times a day, or less than that, or something , stickyfiend will be where you find the drawings of a man as he ruminates about the world. These drawings will be the characters, brought to life, on stickynotes.
curiously dangerous
I present to you the first sticky fiend. “Curiously dangerous” is the fiend that lurks in the corner, quiet and solemn. However his mannerisms, do not be fooled because his hide make harm you.
